FOR ADULTS

WATCH (aka Wednesday evenings At Church) is our name for the Saint Matthews' mid-week program on Wednesday evenings.  The evening starts each Wednesday with a simple dinner at 7:00 p.m. in the parish hall. Food is provided, but contributions are welcome. Programs last from 7:30 to 8:30 p.m. and offer something for all ages, so bring your family!  Samples of typical programs are listed below.  Contact the church for the latest series.

  • The Jesus Way (based on the book by bestselling author, Eugene Peterson). This ten-week course will be led by Father Rob Merola. A way of sacrifice. A way of failure. A way on the margins. A way of holiness. All of these ways prepared the "way of the Lord" that was completed in Jesus. But somewhere along the line, have we lost the way? We'll look at how those who came before Christ -- Abraham, Moses, David, Elijah, Isaiah of Jerusalem, and Isaiah of the Exile -- revealed and prepared the "way of the Lord" that became complete in Jesus. Then, we'll consider how modern concerns with consumerism, celebrity, charisma, and so forth, affect our view of “the Jesus way.”
  • Devotional Writing   Have you ever read the daily devotionals on the church's web site? Martha Olson, Sue Reier, and Althea Kuniholm will be leading and teaching on how to write effective and meaningful devotionals. This course will not only help you become a better writer, it will help you understand and better communicate spiritual truths that are important to you.
  • Biblically-based Personal Finances  A Biblically-based personal finance course will be offered by Richard Leach. This course is for anyone who wants to learn more about managing their financial affairs using biblical principles. Topics will include personal financial statements, cash flow, dept repayment, budgets, organizing your estate, and giving. If this subject matter is of interest to you or can help you, plan to attend!

Prayer Team. Anyone can join the prayer team that meets each Sunday evening at 7:00 p.m. at the church for a prayer service. For more information, or if you have requests for prayer contact the Prayer Team. (Prayer requests are handled confidentially.)

Calling All Men. A men's group meets each Saturday morning from 7:30-8:30 a.m. at the church for discussion and fellowship. However, the first Saturday each month is dedicated to a particular program—Letters from Dad (see below). For more information or to register for Letters from Dad, contact Mark Vereb .

Letters from Dad. If God were to take you home today, what would your wife and children hold in their hands tomorrow that would let them know that they were the treasures of your life? You're invited to join us on a journey to leave a legacy of faith, hope, and love through the lost art of letter writing.

Through participating in Letters from Dad you will:

  • Learn to write the things you have always wanted to say but didn't know how.
  • Leave treasured letters of love that will be read long after you are gone.
  • Learn to speak and write these blessings to your family.
  • Store, in letter form, the three things that last: faith, hope, and love.
